New York Comic Con April 18th - 20th

We've been busy the last couple of weeks, prepping for the New York Comic Con. We'll be debuting lots of new stuff including a few new large prints, and a couple of new artists, and even a limited edition silk screen you can pick up free just for sliding by our table. So plan to make the trip to midtown Manhattan for the New York Comic Con and look for us, we'll be sharing a table with the always amiable Velocity Comics.
Be there 'cuz Stan Lee said so.

MATT PRINTS!!

"As per Spencer's request, I'm bloggin about my screenprint experience. It ain't no new thing to me. We've been fooling around with screenprinting since we were young pubescent college nerds at VCU. Spencer built his first DIY table using a shop vac, a bathroom stall door and some duct tape. Soon after he installed a foot switch for the vacuum, so our neighbors heard a loud "VWOOOOOOOOM" every ten seconds for hours on end.

After a brief "9-5 job" related hiatus, getting back into the dig has been a lot of fun, and it feels easier than ever since we're not working in a tiny closet-sized space anymore. So fun that i've moved my drawing desk right next to the screenprinting table. Hopefully I can quit my job soon and Spencer will hire me to wash out screens for minimum wage.

Keep an eye out, we should have another poster coming soon. We'll at least try to crank out a second run of "Daibutsu" for those who weren't able to pick one up the first time around. A big thank you goes out to Spencer for getting Team 8 Press going, to the participating artists, and to all of our friends in the Richmond community who encourage these great projects."

Learn the basics of DIY screen printing and take a stab at your own poster or t-shirt under the guiding hand of Team 8 Press. Get the scoop on building your own equipment and launching your own cheap, effective screen printing studio anywhere.

Sign up at Gallery5 or email spencer@team8press.com by March 23rd. We'll be meeting there at 1pm on the 30th and carpooling to Team 8's secret underground lair on Northside of RVA.

Don't forget to bring your own blank shirts or we'll supply paper for printing posters. Also, refer to our Artwork Preparation Guide (available at Gallery5 or here) for instructions on creating and submitting your artwork by March 23rd.

Screenprinting and Other Tutorials

There Once Was A Rebellion is a politically charged project aiming to arm the public with guerrilla media techniques such as stenciling and screen printing. It is a wealth of simple DIY info designed to allow communication with the public on a large scale without the need for an inflated budget or a list of inflated connections.

Check out the easy to understand, illustrated instructionals including one by yours truly and start setting up your own shop on the cheap.

A Bit of Press for Team 8 Press

Another huge thanks goes out to Noah of Skull-A-Day. His poster got features on I Want Your Skull - a blog featuring skeletal artwork. There is a lot of great poster art featured and a good bit of it is screen printed. And all of it is skeletal. Yeah for our bony internal support structure!

MATT ATTACK!

Matt Deans is back! Above is a rough of Matt's new illustration with the color done by Spencer Hansen. The color is still awaiting Matt's final approval and inevitable tweaking before we go to print, but I couldn't wait to post this one. It's loosely based in a series with an older Team 8 print by Matt and Spencer called Daibutsu (view below) which is out of print, but we're thinking about doing a second edition in honor of the new robo-automaton-baby above. SWEET!
